can i use the flash instead? I dont have access to a micro sd card because i fried my last one trying to do something similar and somehow managed to connect everything wrong. im pretty sure my esp has 4-32 mb of flash cuz it was a modified one i bought. i can't buy any more sd cards though.

With uARM8266? No. uARM8266's disk image (jaunty.rel.v2) is already several hundreds MBs. So you basically can't fit that onto your esp8266's internal flash.

You might be lucky with mini-rv32ima, but there is currently no port of that on esp8266 (at least for the last time I searched). I planned to do one but I'm busy now so can't.
