Playback progress lost

Open dstapp opened this issue 3 months ago • 6 comments

It already happened a couple of times, that I open ShelfPlayer (3.x current stable version), and the playback state of my audiobook is completely gone. It shows up in "Continue series", but it looks like I never played it. I've enabled the "Auto download Listen Now" thing, and I can see that its still available locally on my phone, but it does not even show up in "Listen Now" ("Weiterhören", whatever that translates to in the app). Unfortunately, I cannot add much more in terms of debugging it, I didn't yet recognize a pattern that would make that happen.

I don't use any other apps, not even the ABS web UI, for playback. I, however, often have to switch between offline and online mode and have the audiobooks always downloaded in case I have no cell coverage when I'm on the road.

Any ideas? Thanks so much!

Have also had this issue. Also pausing & resuming play I sometimes am set back anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes.

@dstapp did the issue occur after a fresh start of the app or after you switched offline / online and / or started playback a few times?

@rasmuslos I've experienced this issue multiple times now too. Every time it happened was after pausing playback through the live activity and coming back to the app at a later point (an hour or a day later).
Twice when it happened I got the alert to ask if I wanted to resume playback, in which case I clicked resume and it would start at chapter 1. From that point I pressed cancel instead and did not experience the issue for a while. The last time I did not even get the alert but the progress was reset regardless.
In listening sessions on Audiobookshelf it looks like this:

I don't use offline mode and I only use this app for playback. I'm on the latest version of the app and version 2.28.0 of ABS.

I have written a simple tracker because ABS doesn't offer a good solution for that. Maybe this helps you (also great when you remove files, you can search the tracker for entries).

@dstapp @DanielScholte can you share a debug log taken after the issue occurs?

@rasmuslos I will try to collect those over the next days in case it appears again and report back.

I'm having this issue as well. This morning I found my audiobook's progress had been reset to 0. Apparently, it happens at the end of a listening session, so it's not going to be easy to get logs for it.

I've never had this issue before, but in the last four days my playback has been reset every day at least once. I suspect the cause might be the way the playback is stopped: by pulling out my AirPods Pro and putting them into the case. I'm guessing this is different from pressing pause, as iOS might expect to resume the playback once the AirPods are back in your ear. It's gotten so annoying that I will probably switch to another app until this gets fixed.

ShelfPlayer 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 ABS server: 2.31.0

I think this might somehow be caused by directly playing instead of downloading. Does this match your experience?

Yes, I was streaming the audiobook from my ABS server. I didn't have this issue when I had the book downloaded.
