Fan always on

Open daspliff opened this issue 8 years ago • 2 comments

Does anyone has issues with their fan being ALWAYS on. I am on 4.9 (2015 Pixel LS). I did not notice when this started happening (on which kernel) but my fan is always going. I would close all programs and suspend the machine and the fan is still going....for more than 24hrs. It may change intensity (higher rpm) when under load but it never goes off. Is there a way to manually control the fan?

So I tried a few things.. I installed ectool and tried to turn the fan off like so: sudo ectool --interface=lpc fanduty 0 ......this did not work.

I wiped the ssd, went back to chromeOS updated the firmware...same fan issue. I tried to turn off the fan in ChromeOS...no luck

I am now dualbooting chomeOS alongside Ubuntu 16.04 with the 4.9 kernel. Same fan issue.

Edit: I think updating the firmware worked. Its been a couple of days and I now have a completely silent machine again. Fan barely comes on under load and not as loudly.
