This issue also impacts me on MT76x02 and MT7915.
I resolved my issue by switching from "FT over the Air" to "FT over the DS." Works properly now.

@JsBergbau No, WMM Mode should always be enabled; otherwise you get 802.11g rates. At any rate "WNM sleep mode" wasn't the cause, I worked around the issue for the time...
@larena1 It depends on the client behavior, if it works with all your clients there should be no cause for concern. It won't stop working out of nowhere
Why? Because I want to integrate it with https://github.com/wustho/epy but I don't want to wait for ages for the playback.
I've done that before but had to stop doing that so the subtitle generation works.
