Allow to exclude activities from location updates

Open XilinJia opened this issue 7 years ago • 1 comments

Many activities are relatively stationary (Coding, Cinema, Cooking, Reading, Sleeping, and even swimming in a pool, running on treadmill, or workout in gym, etc). Locations of these can be assigned at time of start (and/or maybe at time of stop), but is not needed for updates every few minutes, so as to save battery. So it's better to have an option to set about location updates for each activity. I actually prefer no location updates being the default for newly created activities.

Weired, I was sure I commented on that already... I'll try again

I agree with this request also for privacy reasons and propose 5 possible settings:

  • never (if a running activity has this do not check for location at all)
  • seldom (good energy saving, as updates are requested only on activity changes, when app is in foreground and as passive receiver, switching the activity automatically - which is planned for the future - based on location information will not be possible with this)
  • normal (like now, but maybe with a foreground service to have the update also on Android O+ regularly
  • high (update around every minute, to create a real track and be able to derive distance and average speed)
  • very high (as much location updates as technically possible, would even allow to edit OpenStreeMap based on the track)

And this should be configurable per activity, while the global setting is used if not explicitly changed.
