iPad: Magic Keyboard highlight button clicks ignored

Description

The highlighting popup (colors and note button) ignore clicks with the magic keyboard. The buttons are highlighted on mouseover, and the click is visualized/animated, but nothing happens.

Tapping works fine.

Steps to reproduce

1. Mark text in any way (trackpad or finger), the highlight popup is shown.
2. Click with the trackpad on one of the popup buttons

Expected behavior

The highlight should be added / the "add note" viewcontroller should be presented.

Current behavior

Button animation finishes, but nothing happens.

Environment

App: 4.4.6 Device: iPad Pro 12.9" (5th gen) running 15.6

I'm having this same issue! Mouse clicks don't work to hightlight; touching to choose color works just fine.
