minimum requirement for number of processors for Apple during installation

Open poksze opened this issue 7 years ago • 2 comments

Hello, I don't know if it is the right forum to ask questions. I was following the instruction on http://docs.railsbridge.org/installfest/macintosh

Under the processor type, it stated "If it ends with Intel Core Duo or something else, you are NOT good to go."

Reason I ask is that my own MACbook pro is on the borderline, does it mean I can't install the latest version of Ruby or Rails?

I appreciate any clarifications, Cecilia

Hi, Cecilia. This is a fine place to ask questions about the docs. I know RailsBridge NYC has a slack you can join and ask questions, and other chapters may as well.

I think you might be fine to proceed and see how it goes. I'm not sure I understand what motivated that caveat. It should be possible to install ruby and rails on your mac. It might run slowly, though. Apologies if I'm missing something and wrong about that, and good luck!

Macs with the Core Duo processor line were the last to use a 32-bit CPU micro-architecture and operating system version. I don't recall which specific dependencies require 64-bit support, the default on Core 2 Duo Macs and above, but I expect that's the reason for the cutoff.
