  • Device model: Samsung Galaxy S8+ (Snapdragon)
  • Android version: 9
  • MelonDS version: 1.6.0

Problem:
App crashes when scanning for roms after a while. App also restarts on its own after launching Pokémon Black 2.

Steps to reproduce (if applicable): For the app crashing

  1. Let MelonDS scan for ROMs for a little while For the app restarting itself on its own
  2. Launch Pokémon Black 2
  3. Wait for the app to restart itself

Do you have any compressed ROMs? If yes, in which format are they?

They are in .7z and .zip format

Can you move those files to a separate directory and try again? First remove the .7z files, then the .zip. This way we should be able to identity the format that is causing problems. If you don't wan't to move them, you can rename the files and change the extension name. For example, rename .7z files to .7z1, so that they don't appear.

Also experiencing this.

LG G8 Android 10. 7z files cause Melon to crash.

A little troubleshooting suggests the problem is .7z files that do not contain an .nds file. In my case it was a .7z file containing a Dolphin .rvz. Renaming to .7z1 solves the problem.

Now I put DS and Dolphin roms in separate directories, reset the scanned directory to DS only, so far so good.

DraStic doesn't have this issue

I can confirm the solution offered by fakewooder does fix the crashing when scanning ROMs, at least for me. It does appear to be archives with no .NDS files that cause the issue. I had zipped .BIN BIOS files the caused the crashing for me.
