I've done a few changes to ensure it starts as a standard application in erlang now.

This used your code as a base, you can cherry pick the commits that you want to include in your version.

If you want me to break these out into pull requests, I can do that too. Just let me know.

The next feature I'd like to write is to change it out the settings from a -define into a application settings file. Is this something you're interested in ?
