menu item Open Recent took over 10 min to populate

File > Open Recent

MacOS 10.15 catalina ; I'm accepting this is now two years old so this may be my own fault.

nb: not clear if this is related to #223 as that was fixed by https://github.com/racket/gui/issues/168

When you say that it took over 10 minutes to populate, can you explain in more detail what you saw and when you were clicking and things like that?

lol- Had DrR open, Open Recent working as expected

• Closed DrR
• Launched DrR
• Clicked open recent -> empty
• Started timer
• Opened files in two to three different tabs, did some light editing nothing large or heavyweight
• Checked open recent every 2 minutes
• Open Recent populated normally at 12 minutes

Also followed procedure in old issue but this did not trigger the problem, nor did the related reproduction script provided by Alex H.

I closed the old issue and created this issue because it seems pretty clear they are unrelated.

Just occurred to me that I need to uninstall / disable plugins to rule them out. Will do this today
