Addon no longer works

Open MrRobot12 opened this issue 6 years ago • 17 comments

Since upgrading to FF 60.0b7 this addon stopped working. Tabs are no longer unloaded after the set amount of time.

Shouldn’t the title be "Timed tab discard no longer works" ? its kinda misleading

surajmandalcell avatar Mar 30 '18 08:03 surajmandalcell

It doesn't work at all.

"Discard all inactive tabs" has no effect either.

I just tried, it worked fine for me You should reinstall the addon or refresh firefox if reinstall fails

I reinstalled the addon and it still doesn't work.

Are you sure you are using FF 60.0b7 or newer?

It worked fine before this version.

Been using version 60 since it released

your issue seems to be paired with other addon, can you check your addon list and see if any other conflicting addon exist?

surajmandalcell avatar Mar 30 '18 10:03 surajmandalcell

What do you mean paired to another addon?

Nothing has changed.

FF Developer Edition got upgraded to 60.0b7 and this addon stopped working.

Nothing else changed in my setup.

I mean some other might be conflicting with auto tab discard, thats all

surajmandalcell avatar Mar 30 '18 10:03 surajmandalcell

I figured out the problem.

By default "Do not discard a tab if it can display desktop notifications" is checked.

This didn't give me any issue until about a week ago. Now, having this checked causes all tabs to stop unloading, regardless of the domain.

I unchecked this option and now tabs are unloading properly.

on nice

Also, I'm using FF Dev edition, which should have newer builds than standard FF.

Something might have changed that causes this feature to not work properly anymore.

I guess its an firefox issue not plugin itself, i guess you should close the issue

surajmandalcell avatar Mar 30 '18 22:03 surajmandalcell

It will become an issue for everyone once FF catches up to this version, so the developer should be made aware.

MrRobot12 avatar Mar 30 '18 22:03 MrRobot12

Same for me on FF 59, if "Do not discard a tab if it can display desktop notifications" is checked even forced discard didn't work. I have been trying disabling other addons, factory reset and reinstall addon with no result. Though it work as expected on clean profile.

@MrRobot12 open the Web Console on a page that is not being discarded and paste Notification.permission. What do you get?

rNeomy avatar Apr 01 '18 05:04 rNeomy

I'm having the same problem. Using Firefox Quantum 62.0 64-bit Notification.permission returns 'default'.

A similar add on in Pale moon, BarTab, works just fine. But here I've tried both this one and Dormancy, and neither works, leading me to believe it's a browser problem. Tried clean installs, with only one of the mentioned extensions to test.

Nothing.

… Tabs are no longer unloaded after the set amount of time.

Not reproducible with Auto Tab Discard 0.3.7.

If this is still an issue, can it be given a title that's descriptive and distinctive? Thanks.
