GDAL Multidimensional Raster support

See here - this seems a flexible and powerful way to write multidimensional raster data with time dimension(s), while at the same time leaving the thorny low-level issues (CRS, CF conformance, coordinate names) to the GDAL community.

This replaces (and closes) #397.
