Grids Mode
I think we could add a mode that emulates MI Grids. Here's how it might work:
The first two segments are global control segments.
Control | Segment 1 | Segment 2 | Other Segments |
---|---|---|---|
Slider + CV | Map X | Map Y | [Depends On Color] |
Pot | Clock Rate | Chaos | [Depends On Color] |
Gate Input | Clock Input | Reset | Clock Override (group rightward segments with new clock input) |
Output | Clock Output | Pattern End Output | Pattern Output |
Button | Tap Tempo | Reset Input | Change Segment Type |
Button + Slider | Change Clock Resolution | ? | Regular / Accent Mode |
Button + Pot Wiggle | ? | Swing/Chaos Toggle | Gate / Trigger Toggle |
The other segments could include the following:
Color | Segment Type | Slider + CV Function | Pot Function |
---|---|---|---|
Green | Grids Channel 1 | Fill | Pattern Offset |
Amber | Grids Channel 2 | Fill | Pattern Offset |
Red | Grids Channel 3 | Fill | Pattern Offset |
Green Looping | Clock Divider/Multipler | Frequency | ? |
Amber Looping | Euclidean Sequencer | Number of Steps | Pattern Length |
Red Looping | Probability Skipper | Probability | ? |
The biggest thing this design omits is CV control over chaos/swing, but I think we can get away without since those can still be achieved through external CV modulation. Including those would require sacrificing another channel to a global segment, and if we only have 3 other segments we're kind of missing out.
Very cool idea! I have always kind of wanted to replace the slow LFO mode with something (though I get the sense a good number of people use it...). That said, I doubt I'll get around to creating any new modes anytime soon. I might be open to PRs along these lines though.
This is such a nice idea for an alt firmware for Stages - it could generalize beyond Grids too, to trigger generators of four (or more) outputs, like Zularic Repetitor.
