Updater UX improvement

Open Jaggerstag opened this issue 3 years ago • 4 comments

Suggestion

Add text to updater: "Please pause your torrents and exit qBittorrent to avoid any complications during the download. Don't forget to resume your torrents after finishing." Or make the whole process automatic(more work?/overengineered?)

Use case

New and casual(me) users might not know that they don't have to use task manager to stop the background threads, instead they can just pause the torrents.

Auto-update has been declined in the past.

The installer detects when qbittorrent is running and tells you to exit it. You don't have to use Task Manager. Just File->Exit or right click on the system tray icon and Exit.

If i just simply exit, my torrents keep running in the background and mess with the updater.

Well they shouldn't. qBittorrent should stop after you exit. If you have a lot of torrents downloading then you may need to wait a bit for file data to be written to disk.

how about it just downloading the installer and launching it? would this be a problem?
