Program changes settings on the wrong wireless network connection (?)
Hi, I just installed qaul.net beta2 on my laptop.
Machine: 64-bit laptop. OS: Windows 7. Software version: qaul.net_win7-8_installer_beta2-fat_16012014.exe.
When I run the qaul.net program, it creates an ad-hoc wireless connection labelled "qaul.net" and it says that it is waiting for users. There won't as yet be any other users in my area, so that's fine.
In the popup web page or localhost:8081/ in my web browser, the page looks like it's trying to update, with the text "qaul.net" on it and a row of flashing circles below that.
What happens, though, is that the qaul.net programme doesn't appear to change the settings on the "qaul.net" ad-hoc wireless connection. Instead it changes the settings on the wireless connection that I usually use to connect to my broadband hub, "BTHub3-Etc", and to the internet. It changes the TCP/IPv4 settings on that from "Obtain an IP address automatically" to "Use the following IP address" with a static IP in the private range 10.x.x.x. It also changes "Obtain DNS server address automatically" to "Use the following DNS server addresses" again with a static IP.
So when I quit qaul.net and disconnect from the qaul.net wireless network connection, the system tries to re-connect with my usual connection, "BTHub3-Etc". Windows then reports that no connection to the internet is available, and I have to manually restore the DHCP settings on that connection.
I'm a newbie to this project, so I hope this makes sense to you. Thanks for your help. Eric Twose.
The new Beta 3 contains the following features that should fix the following issues:
- You can manually select the wifi interface on whicht you want to run qaul.net (select the configuration tab and click on "Change Network Interface").
- when closing qaul.net IP address is set to DHCP
still missing:
- remove static DNS servers
