Motivation, pitch

significantly smaller datasets while retaining lossless compression

Alternatives

AVIF can be used but to retain quality of the source dataset it would be preferable to support JXL lossless images

Thanks for the feature request @yggdrasil75

I don't think we'll support JXL in torchvision, as we'll soon be migrating the image decoders into TorchCodec. We'll keep JXL in mind when adding more formats support in TorchCodec.
