Chess version?
@yuandong-tian @jma127 can you please tell us if you are thinking about adapting ELF to a chess version (ELF OpenChess?).
As you probably know there is already an adaptation of LeelaZero for chess named "LeelaChess Zero (LCZero)": https://github.com/glinscott/leela-chess (http://lczero.org). They are doing great advances (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zcXqNzLNBT8RjTHO_AppL6WN0j8TGmOIh6osLPmaB6E/edit#gid=0) but they probably have no enough machine power to reach SF until three months (or more). It would be great if you could reach fastly (one or two weeks) the milestone DeepMind got defeating StockFish.
Thanks for your interest! We're familiar with the great work done by the LeelaChess folks.
There are no immediate plans to adapt ELF to other games such as chess, but this is a very interesting direction and our hope for ELF as a platform is to easily support such extensions.
@jma127 and if I (or whoever) develop the chess adaptation, would your team offer the 2000x GPUs (+the 8 GPUs server) for a week (or two) in order to train the model?
I mean, if a team finally creates the chess env and shows all works fine, are you going to support that effort offering the power machine needed for the training?
@jma127 I am more interested in what would the steps be to make this work for chess?
