Hello from LorryStream and Kotori / Streamz is cool

Open amotl opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Dear Martin,

originally responding to GH-469, in order to chime in on saying »Streamz is cool«, and tell you about where we are using it, I thought it would not be appropriate to hijack that conversation, so I am posting here instead, to respond to your curiosity about where Streamz is (about to be) used on our end.

@martindurant said: I do think that streamz is cool and could be very useful, but it doesn't fit into most people's conception of data processing. Let us know if you do something interesting with it!

@amotl said: Unrelated to @gdmcbain's request, we also think Streamz is cool, and started using it within LorryStream, essentially aiming to give it a command-line interface, and a few other bells and whistles around it, based on our integration needs while aiming to modernize Kotori's core machinery. Aging ten years, it would like to receive some love, and we think Streamz can be useful as an underpinning for the main I/O subsystem.

If you are accepting any kind of support in form of maintenance patches submitted here, let us know.

With kind regards, Andreas.

P.S.: Feel free to close this issue right away, because it's not an actual issue, or move it into a discussion item, as you see fit.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll have a read of LorryStream.

If you would accept any support in form of maintenance patches submitted here, let us know.

Of course! As well as possible new sources, nodes and sinks, there is always work to do (for instance, there is still some legacy Tornado code in here which should be ported to asyncio to lower the bar for developers to contribute). But simple fixes and doc updates also appreciated.
