guessing at a solution via remarks in the issue (#24) discussion
This is just a guess at a solution given some of the comments in issue #24. I need to convert a project from conda to poetry and want to us my M1 and avoid my 8 year old laptop...
This change seemed to work for me in that it installed poetry on my M1. Thanks!

This is not a practical/mergable solution as we do want to take advantage of copies on other platforms, and need to specifically exclude macOS. I have a PR cooking locally that solves this in a more robust/holistic way -- in the mean time, the other install methods (pipx, manual) work just fine.
Sorry for the noise - just wanted to help. Learned a lot. Let me know if I should delete anything.

No problem, and thanks for the help! This is fine to leave open until a new PR supersedes it -- thanks again!
