looks usefull to some... I'd like to see some tests added though and maybe some documentation and examples

Sure @studioj, testing this will require an Atlassian Connect application to be installed on a Jira instance. I'm not sure how to proceed on this. Could you please provide some help? In the mean time I'll rebase the branch.
