Chat dialog acting weirdly

Open massimiliano-leoni opened this issue 9 years ago • 4 comments

I have to report a new strange behaviour I experienced with pychess [this software clearly doesn't like me!].

If I open the chat window and chat with someone, I have seen that sometimes the text I am writing gets selected for no reason. If this happens when I am typing, the next character deletes all the previous ones.

This happens even if I do nothing, in particular:

  1. open a chat window
  2. write something in the line editor, do not send it
  3. wait long enough

The result is that the text gets selected.

This is fairly annoying, other than very strange.

Reproduced it on Ubuntu 16.04 plasma-desktop. Seems this is KDE specific, because I can't reproduce it on any other DE.

Very well. I acknowledge Plasma 5 has a lot of bugs that will be taken care of, sooner or later... But this is quite strange, because it is related to a GTK library, isn't it?

It happened with me on Xfce last time too. Unfortunately I can't reproduce it again :( At least we can say it's not KDE related. It's really strange because it's a simple Gtk.Entry. We connect to its "key-press-event" to handle "Enter" key press. So I can't imagine how can it go wrong. See the bottom at https://github.com/pychess/pychess/blob/master/lib/pychess/widgets/ChatView.py
