Way to official HA integration (HA v0.111.?)

Open northpower25 opened this issue 4 years ago • 5 comments

After the HACS integration is complete successfully the question is how are the way to become an original HA integration for this great integration? Per now the HA Version 0.111 is in the beta test so that the question for me is It possible that we are ready for this or what is to do that we are prepared for this step?

I started an integration to the official reps and i had to stop it because of time availability on my side.

We need to clearly think about it before going to HA.

My Feedback :

  • integration process is long (long code review, we can only add one entity at a time, ..)
  • code requirements are heavy
  • i think bugfixes and updates to integration are long to integrate (because of the review process, inclusion in the new release, etc ..)
  • another good point, is that we don't overload hass with a lot of integrations, which slows everything, users just include what they want.

And we will miss the 0.111, because the time window is too short from my past expeprience.

TMHO, we are not ready yet, we won't be able to be as reactive as we are now, and we should go there if we decide to, once functionalities are stabilised. And again, it is not mandatory :). Users, when will be ready to go there, do you think it is important to be integrated directly in hass ?

Okay thanks for your explanation of the HA onboarding process i can life with the current state over HACS and we can wait for mor user response to the current state. My suggestion on this question was, that as an original HA integration more users got information about the possibility of this Integration.

Late to the party, but would a community Add-on be a preferable path as opposed to an official integration? Judging by the HA usage stats, it seems that some Docker groking install is pretty much the norm nowadays.

(Haven't checked for any soft issues or code gotchas, just spitballing for the time being)

@grm could it be about time to start getting this into the core of HA? It would certainly mean that it would reach more users :-)

Have you had a look at the real effort in making this happen?
