Request for a simpler reduced interface option

Open BigJim opened this issue 5 years ago • 6 comments

I love YTPlayer but I didn't like the interface that was a little too busy for me. I made a custom version that has just a single play/pause button. Note I don't want audio so there was no need for an audio control either.

I wrote to you an requisition email offering to pay for you to add this to your regular distribution about a month ago. It's custom, already done, but I'd prefer it to be part of your regular Wordpress plugin distribution.

I just gave you a donation on your website. I'll give you a substantially larger one if you add this feature.

Grazie mille, Ciao

Hi Jim, Thank you for your appreciated donation! I'll add the light control option on the next major release :-)

All the best, Matteo

@pupunzi This request has some overlap with the ticket https://github.com/pupunzi/jquery.mb.YTPlayer/issues/431 I created where I would like some of the controls to be dropped in case the horizontal width doesn't give enough "real estate" to feature all controls. I hope you will be able to upgrade it in a way that satisfies both of us and probably many more.

With this I mean that it should be possible to only have a play button, but that it's also dropping controls automatically whenever there is not enough room for all of them with enough space between them.

@BigJim You mentioned that you have patched your interface. Are you willing to share that, so I can benefit from that as well until it is implemented in the regular distribution?

I'd rather not because it was pretty much a hack I started over five years ago and haven't updated it since. It's basically a single play/pause button like the one I saw on a competing commercial (before pupunzi had a "pro" option and the other one had no free/trial version).

I could put the button image up but basically a semi-transparent single button icon that transitions between the typical 'play' and a 'pause' images like you'ed have on your media player. I like the simplicity of it. Better for silent backgrounds, and felt that the Youtube connection wasn't necessary for my case (if even a dozen people visited my site in a month :-P)

Hi Jim, I will wait then. It's just that our club website https://hmvc.eu has recently been revised and we're now using this for the first time. I like it a lot and it's a huge improvement to the normal Youtube embedding we've used thus far. We're still seeking how we can best use it and how we can get the biggest integration with it.

@pupunzi I'm still looking forward to a simple control option. This would greatly improve the handling on mobile devices.
