Just a thought configurable default display server
since /etc/windowmanager to determine default desktop environment. What if we have /etc/display-server to determine the default display server to use whether Xorg or Wayland. Why we need this? Due to some environment variables needed to set on Wayland in order the GUI programs works correctly upon switching between Xorg and Wayland
XDG_SESSION_TYPE?
@dimkr nope just read /etc/display-server for what kind of display server was using. If reads nothing just go to wayland.
But what do you mean by "wayland"? Which compositor? And, the various compositors are incompatible with each other: some applications work only if you use a specific compositor, so the distinction between X and Wayland is really a distinction between X and everything else.
