Naming Remasters

This is one item I have been "forgetting" top ask for years: BUt, here goes.

REMASTERs There is nothing wrong with the "remaster" subsystem in Puppy Linux. So this request is for an additional feature.

Today, there are multiple ways to have the system show/tell the current running PUP. Its name is the name assigned by the property-owner developer; namely by the distro author. Send2GIT

When users create remasters of their PUPs, it brings over the OLD name of the PUP being remastered. But, this presents an obvious problem for those of us who would have several iterations of the same PUP running. The name(s) of the remasters are the same as the developer's ISO (distro). Thus, using system commands the PUPs name is same as the author.

I think, what should occur in the remaster process is a demand for a "new" name such that a remaster is distringuished, differently, from the developer's orginal system. Its is not obvious if this is easily done or if it requires something additional to be added the base system to facilitate a new name to be changed when the remaster is crated.

Further, I believe development should decide what would be appropriate as renaming the new remaster might need some thought; such as should a blanket name change be allowed ... or should a mere extension to the base name be required such as v1.0 of the original distro becomes v1.0.1 or v1.0.R1 or ???

I think the value is apparent.
