Ranger Only Previewing Certain Images and Not Others

I am running Spacemacs on Emacs 25. Ranger only shows image previews for certain images. I haven't been able to pin down any differences between the files that ranger previews and the ones that ranger doesn't preview.

Is there anything obvious I can check or tweak to figure out what the issue might be? There also doesn't seem to be any interesting input in the messages buffer either to pin down the problem.

So there is no common file extension that is having issues? I haven't had an issue with PNG files, one thing to check also is whether you have image-dired setup properly, as it is used to resize images to fit to the screen. Trying navigating to an image that doesn't work and press zf

I actually have png images which don't work. (or, to be precise, I haven't found any image at all which works). doing zf doesn't change anything.

Same here! zf won't display images preview! Any!
