Something Google Photos has (although not consistantly in all the places that make sense) is the ability to "See all Photos from this day", i believe that's how they called it.

Maybe a link next to the date that goes to the specific date in the timeline should do the trick (with anchor again so open in new tab works) This could go into all views except the timeline itself, Archive, People etc
