Precise timeline in mobile client

Currently it is almost impossible to choose certain period when you are scrolling huge database of photos on mobile client (See screen atached)

Will it be possible to implement a kind of precise scrolling feature. i.e. by holding down ?

An idea would be to slow down the scrolling as a function of horizontal distance to the slider, i.e. you start scrolling on the right side of the screen where the slider is and then moving your finger to the left reduces the gear ratio until on the left edge of the screen you end up scrolling in 1:1 ratio.
