Dependency solver takes an extremely long time to be loaded with content

I recently encountered a very long publish time of a Satellite content view with dependency resolution turned on. Here are some notes about what I observed when this occurred:

  • The publish completed successfully in 17 hours.
  • Almost all of the time was spent in the Actions::Pulp3::Repository::MultiCopyContent subtask.
  • This was the first version of the content view published.
  • The content view contains one repository, rhel-8-for-x86_64-appstream-rpms.
  • The content view has a module stream content filter. All 453 module streams in the repo are included by the filter.
  • The Satellite server has 6 CPU cores and 20GB RAM.
  • The Satellite was not performing other resource-intensive tasks during the publish job.
