This is a good idea though this should rather complement the current libfolks implementation instead of replacing it (as you suggested). Libfolks aggregates avatars from several sources like phone address...
Slightly related: I accidentally discovered a gnome-shell [extension](https://github.com/jrouleau/gnome-shell-extension-gravatar) that downloads avatars from gravatar. Maybe some of it's code can be used to implemend gravatar support in mailnag-gnome-shell.

Nevermind, just noticed that the homepath is used in the install_local target only. Looks good to me, I'll merge it as soon as possible!
That's a known problem and a relict of the days when Mailnag was supporting libnotify notifications only. Libnotify notifcations can't be silently updated on mail removal so Mailnag only supported...

How many email accounts did you add in mailnag-config?
Confirmed, as a temporary workaround you can untick the "Remove indicator incon if maillist is empty" option in the extension settings dialog.
