I think it is something wrong with your kmod, you are probably using a CONFIG_CONCURRENT_MODE kmod. You should do an clean-up and comment out the CONFIG_CONCURRENT_MODE in Makefile and re-build/re-install...
I disable CONFIG_CONCURRENT_MODE by default for now.

I think we may not need to switch to new layout if build the firmware with `CONFIG_KERNEL_KALLSYMS` disabled, this would reduce the kernel size to 2.8M
