Change made after October 2022 hangs Minecraft 1.16.5

Hi,

I've been using gl4es on a Rocks 5B SBC with great results. Thank you very much for doing this!

I updated gl4es with the latest from the master branch on Jan. 12, 2023 and now Minecraft freezes once a world is loaded. I reverted back to a gl4es commit hash from Oct. 2022 and it worked again. Minecraft logs aren't helpful in explaining what the issue is... but I thought I'd let this community know about this issue on this device.
