Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box does not display shadows correctly

Open Tranquility6789 opened this issue 9 months ago • 3 comments

I originally thought that this was a driver issue, but I'm starting to think that this is a box64 issue. I cannot find any gameplay online that runs on Android, whether that be with Winlator, termux-box, gamefusion, etc. I've tested this game with multiple different emulators and they all display the same issue. I've also used multiple different devices, as well as different drivers and nothing changes. The game on low shadows disables shadows, but when switching to medium or high, the game looks exactly the same. The shadows are rendering somewhere, as increasing the shadow quality impacts fps and increases gpu utilization, but the game doesn't actually look any different.

1st image is from my PC (colors are from HDR capture). 2nd is from my phone. Both screenshots are using the same graphics settings. (all max, no AA)

logs.txt

Here is the log file. I am using box64 0.3.3 5dadc51. I've noticed that once getting into the game, box64 will produce an error every 10 seconds saying "020c:fixme:powrprof:PowerGetActiveScheme (00000000,2EFEFF1C) stub!" Sometimes it's slightly different, but it's the same type of error, if that makes sense.

It still might be a driver issue. You can try with fastround=0, fastnan=0 and DYNAREC_SSE_FLUSHTO0=1 see if it change something. Else, it might be turnip missing something...

I tried all of these, both individually and all at once and nothing changed.

As for turnip missing something, I think that's entirely possible, but I'm not so sure. I decided to retest it with those emulators, and they all have the same issue. At the same time, both Skyline and Yuzu emulators, although both technically defunct, have the exact same issue as well, even though they're different emulators. However, I don't think it's a turnip issue. For one, the same glitch happens with Winlator 9.0 Vortek drivers, Gamehub Gamefusion drivers, Micewine native drivers, and Winlator Bionic native drivers. But even weirder is that older version of EggNS, which was based off of yuzu, did display the shadows correctly, and aps3e does as well. Also, the canceled Ryujinx android port has them.

Another thing that might be of note is that I used to have a very similar issue with NFS Hot Pursuit 2010 - another Criterion game, where the shadows were rendering but not showing up when I was using Turnip drivers above 24.2.0. However, this only occured with specific turnip drivers, as reverting to 24.1.0 fixed it, and the shadows are fine with Turnip 25.1.0 and above. This also didn't happen when I tested it on my Snapdragon 695 device. However, Burnout Paradise has this graphical issue regardless of turnip version, or even different drivers altogether.

I'm not fully sure that this is a box64 issue, but I don't think it's a turnip driver issue, as similar bugs happen with native drivers on different emulators, and the shadows do display with some other emulators. The only thing I can think of now is a game-related issue, but I've tried a couple of repacks and they have the same issue. I'll still keep trying to see what's happening.

Sorry if this is really confusing.

Ok, it's probably a driver issue. I can't say that it's specifically a turnip issue still, but the shadows change when anti aliasing is turned on. It's still wrong, but it is different. Thanks for the help tho ^^
