Describe the issue

I have used PMAP on several PS2's at this point with decent success. I like to tune jitter further before sale even on ones that are already working with all formats. I've had multiple including my latest one that reads everything outside service mode but refuses to INIT SKEW after going back in.

MD1.40 A> INIT SKEW
4. 0ca50005 DVD-SL ADJUSTMENT (FIX GAIN) - Rx-command error: 122
DVD-SL initialization failed.

Here's the console info;

there is a test build, maybe it will work: https://github.com/AKuHAK/PMAP/releases

Same bug for me with a I chassis (GH-26) and sanyo lens (HD-7) even with the latest development build... So, unfortunately, the problem is not fixed yet. My laser works good (but not perfect) so i don't think it's a laser issue, plus the console is not modchipped.

P.S. The GUI version on my PC it's completely broken, I'm using the cmd version.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem on PS2 model SCPH-50004, Sony laser KHS400-C. I tried the test build from this thread, unfortunately it didn’t help. I also tried adjusting the laser itself, setting the resistance values to about 800 Ohms

Doh Dont know what I am doing, but check latest dev build, maybe it will better.

Got the same issue with my SCPH-50004. Tried the test build but no change.

I got past this error with the latest build from back when I originally commented. I adjusted the DVD pot and tried several different discs. I didn't measure the resistance though, just adjusted it until it went through. My laser read discs before calibrating with PMAP but this error might still be related to wear on the laser since adjusting the pot helped, at least for me.

After two hours of testing different disks and different parameters of the laser power resistance, I managed to done with INIT SKEW, but with further operations (PLAY 1X, JITTER 256), the disk ceased to spin after a minute, without giving out any errors. At the same time, the parameter JITTER was approximately 32000. Does this mean that my laser is more dead than alive?) I also tried the last dev release

I adjusted the DVD pot

What did you mean?

Is it possible to get a more detailed description of errors? PS, the console is still disassembled and I can help on it with debugging

Tested, but the lastest build should be nuked because it's completely broken. It gives me "MechaCommandAdd: too many lines". In the end the only solution was to replace the Sanyo HD7 lens with a Sony 400C and the "old" stable build worked like a charm.

I adjusted the DVD pot

What did you mean?

There are 2 potentiometers on the laser, one for DVDs and one for CDs. I adjusted the DVD potentiometer until I didn't get the "FIX GAIN" error anymore. However I didn't measure the resistance.

Doh I cant find where exactly this problem appeared, this too many lines problem is caused by some code optimization, but it doesnt trigger everytime, so i cant find what caused this.

New build is ready for tests.

If it helps, the "many lines" error appeared when I tried to do laser calibration, also I don't think "Ignore CD TE errors on 50k" is needed anymore, that's not the problem, so you can restore the function at this point... i'm soprry i can't test the latest release yet because I returned the console to the customer. Apparently the tool seems to give problems when the laser is particularly tired and with Sanyo units.

P.S. I forgot to thank you for your availability and for creating this very useful tool!

I'm having the same issue with the latest build.

cdq1985 avatar Aug 13 '24 18:08 cdq1985

BTW, I also now avoid that error (INIT SKEW) by adjusting two potentiometers on my Sony laser. But after that, I still got huge jitter and the disk automatically stopped playing after about 1 minute. It started to try to focus the laser and after a few attempts, the disc stopped, but the pmap still thought that the disk was playing.

Yurgil avatar Aug 13 '24 18:08 Yurgil

oh, found a typo inside one switch block, maybe last build will help with your issues

AKuHAK avatar Aug 14 '24 12:08 AKuHAK

I tried this tool out for the first time today on two PS2s, and ran into this issue on a SCPH-50001 model with a GH-023 motherboard and Sanyo HD7 laser. I managed to get around it by running the INIT DVD-SL command instead of INIT SKEW. This at least allowed me to proceed with the jitter check and adjustment. This may be a workaround for this issue in some cases.

EDIT: After looking over the console further and adjusting the CD pot to get it to read CD-based games quickly, I'm fairly sure that the laser is on its way out. I don't know if the error in question is a bug or just an indication that the laser is going bad.

I tried using the INIT DVD–SL command, but I was unable to proceed to the jitter adjustment.
