[FR] Network update problem and documentation

I'm running v1.1.0-Beta-16191d7cc9 FYI.

So I have a question and a suggestion. I'm trying to understand the network update feature in OPL's menu. The "overwrite existing records" checkbox specifically is confusing me. Are these the same settings you download in each games individual settings menu? I notice that when I download settings defaults for a single game, then save the settings before going back to the game list that the top of the screen now lists the game name and "downloaded defaults." This is a nice confirmation to see. However, I do not see this confirmation for games I haven't individually downloaded and saved their defaults for.

Does the main menu's network update feature download these same defaults for all games simultaneously? I tried doing this several times, but I'm not sure this is working. After downloading them with the "overwrite existing defaults" checkbox selected, I'm not seeing the confirmation for "downloaded defaults" in all games. I even saved the settings from the main menu after doing this, but if I go into the game settings menu for each game it only shows the "downloaded defaults" listing for games that I have individually downloaded and saved myself.

I hope I'm communicating well here. This is a bit convoluted, and I'm making some assumptions on the network update feature's purpose.

My suggestion would be more onscreen descriptions of what each menu option does. Maybe after I get a full explanation I could begin writing a manual doc for the wiki, and submit it for review. I looked around on the github for documentation, but I didn't see anything about this.

I'm not seeing the confirmation for "downloaded defaults" in all games. This is probably just an issue of me not setting the Config source for the network update feature after changing per game code.. as it works exactly as you described.

Network Update gets the cfgs for all games rather than individually as long as one doesn’t exist and the checkbox allows it to overwrite if it does exist.

Currently my computer doesn’t turn on and I haven’t bothered trying to fix it yet.. but if I get a chance I will try set the config source for network update.

Does that mean that currently the only way to get cfgs for all games is individually downloading them per game?

No it should still work fine, I just don’t think it’s displaying the string correctly

Cool. BTW where do these cfgs come from? Has every game been tested?

They are a bit old these days, icyson55 was looking for people to maintain the list but I’m not sure if he found people or not.. ideally I would like to add all game info, title, genre, description etc and then have multiple dbs for different languages.. but it’s just too much work and I don’t think there are others willing to help build the database.
