Describe the issue
hello,
im using opl with PAL crt tv. Attached is a PAL PS2 slim the menus look fine but most of the games (maybe something like 90%) look like they are streched with 2 black bars on top and on the bottom. The squares are rectangles and circles are ovals, I have tried most settings but the issue persists. Any help? or do i have to just live with it

Are you playing PAL games? If so, it's not a bug. That's what most PAL games look like.
yes i am indeed playing pal games, would playing ntsc games help? i want to get good picture with no stretching and no black bars on top/bottom
Did you try to change Screen Size in System Configuration:

Yes, the only real solution is to play NTSC games, they will also play at full speed too. Most PAL games from that era and before suffered from the same issues.

That will not make any difference, especially for badly optimized PAL games. Most PS2 games simply ignore those settings anyway.
Some CRT TVs also have an option to change aspect ratio like:
Original, Full, 4:3 Pan Scan, 4:3 Letterbox, 4:3 Pillarbox...

This is how it looks on both the launcher and during games. The screen is on full setting already and tv dont have an aspect ratio setting. Its 4:3 only. I tried ffx ntsc still the same issue.
The image you posted looks like a typical PAL game. Are you sure the FFX game you tried was definitely NTSC? The PAL version of FFX is notoriously bad, it has huge boarders and runs very slow in comparison to the NTSC version.
At boot Black and Burnout 3: Takedown should have 50\60 Hz selector,
so you could try these games.
