[ISSUE]: Issues with OPL working under VLAN aware network with cheap managed network switch
Checks
- [x] I have checked existing OPL issues for duplicates and found none
- [x] I am using either OPL latest stable version, or archived version or OPL beta version
Describe the issue
There's this cheap managed switch in the market that you literally cant remove VLAN1 on any ports (untagged). Usually this is not really a issue as long as you set the change the PVID number to whatever VLAN ID you want that access port going to.
But with OPL it seems like it doesnt like this, for now OPL kinda works on this kind of managed switches but not until you attempt to run a game.
what works with OPL right now under this cheap managed switch:
- All of my game consoles runs on VLAN 111
- OPL were able to get a DHCP IP lease under VLAN111
- OPL were able to connect to SMB server under VLAN111 and list all the available games
whats not working:
- When you attempt to run a game, the game either stuck on Pink screen or Green Screen.
The fix:
- basically use a real managed switch
make sure that port is no longer a member of VLAN1 and all games starts working. I also tested on my cisco managed switch to be also member of VLAN1 and VLAN111 both untagged and set the PVID to 111 and as expected it exhibits the same issue with those cheap managed switches.
Conclusion:
while having ports permanently tied to VLAN1 is not really a big thing as long as you can change the PVID value to whaever VLAN you want it going, it seems that PS2 with OPL dont really like it that much.
Im just posting it here so maybe somebody on the internet is also experiencing the same issue as I do trying to diagnose the issue why the heck its not working.
Im not really expecting any fix for this so, maybe if you can fix this, cool, if not well ill just go post it here so somebody can save their time and head scratching with this weird issue.
