Atom 1.12.7 crashes in macOS

Today I updated Atom to version 1.12.7 in macOS (10.12.1) and started crashing. Same happened with the beta version of Atom. Finally found that removing git-projects folder in ~/.atom/packages fixed the crashing.

Removing the folder mentioned above and reinstalling the package from the Install menu seems to be a workaround. Interestingly, removing the folder for the newly installed package and restoring the old folder that was crashing Atom works. Something unknown to me must have changed in the process.
