sysfs equivalent?

This is more of a wishlist/discussion item than an issue persay, but as I haven't seen much discussion of this elsewhere, any interest in a sysfs variant of the same idea? Requires some ability to enumerate the tunables independent of hardware/modules/etc., which may be non-trivial. Also, sysfs modules have several different modes [1] and scattered documentation.
