I had to modify ~/Library/Application Support/TextMate/PlugIns/AckMate.tmplugin/Contents/Resources/ackmate_ack (line 1196) to add haml

Please see https://github.com/protocool/AckMate/wiki for instructions on adding additional file types - there's no need to edit the plugin.
