Add search or filter to class hierarchies in the different class restriction editors

Open csnyulas opened this issue 6 years ago • 4 comments

It would be really useful to have a way to filter or search for classes that appear in the class hierarchies in the Object restriction editor or Class hierarchy panels of the class restriction editor. This would be especially useful for ontologies that have large number of classes and/or several levels in the class hierarchy.

See the Edit menu.... "Find in view". This pops up a search box for the current view.

The "Find in view..." is disabled when I am in the object restriction creator: search_in_view_disabled

In fact this seems to be a problem with other (regular, "in the tab") views as well, in which case it deserves a separate issue.

However, regardless of whether the "Find in view..." being disabled will be turned in a separate issue, I would like to reopen this one, just to see if we could consider adding a the functionality of the "Find in view" action to these views in a fashion that is more obvious to the user, for example through a search button. I doubt that the many of the users would discover by themselves that they can do CTRL+SHIFT+F or find the "Find in view" option under the Edit menu.

Ok makes sense. Assigning this to you for 5.6.0

I think this is inherent to all modal/dialog windows. I have really had very tough times with alignment projects (I cringed when someone sought help aligning to SNOMED CT using Protege). A lot of time is wasted behind navigating to the class you want (and having to switch between a secondary searchable view e.g. a web version).
