change recording subsystem from streamripper to mplayer or vlc

Change recording subsystem from streamripper to another tool. It seems streamripper isn't developed anymore. mplayer and vlc would support more formats.

But Streamripper offers a nice feature, you can specify the amount of time to record. Whatever should be used, it should support this too (or a reliable way to stop the recording must be implemented, too).

mplayer doesn't have the ability to be stopped after a certain number of seconds. You'll have to kill the process; see this thread for examples.

do you still intend to replace streamripper? (I use it for https://github.com/mro/radio-pi as well and am fine with it being unmaintained)

Edit: just found https://github.com/streamripper/streamripper - is it THE streamripper?
