[Feature request] Save tabs so that they will be kept even if browser is closed by mistake

Open Ansem93 opened this issue 5 years ago • 13 comments

Hi everyone, I just lost 4 tab groups that I made because I had two windows open for firefox, and I closed the one with everything first :( there is some way to avoid lose everything like it happened to me right now? It would be cool to add a save button that will restore every tab lost in case of worst scenario. Of course if I didn't save I would still lost anything added after the last save.

My wish for such kind of problem would be an automatic backup.

Yeah, auto backup should be a default thing!

Doesn't Ctl-Shift-N (or Cmd on Mac) re-open whatever window you just closed, with all its tabs intact?

This might only work if it wasn't the last window.

Hello, I'm a Simple Tabs Group refugee, just installed that addon, very nice to see that the tab groups are movable! On the topic, I think STG has good ideas for this: a) Periodic automatic backups that place the data file into a separate folder, and b) Bookmarking all the tabs in every tab group.

@vaxul I believe it will still work once you've re-opened Firefox. If you have Firefox configured to restore tabs on startup, you won't even need the shortcut.

@BatmanAoD The problem is when you have two FF windows and close the first one by mistakes. In that case you will lose everything. An automatic backup should be mandatory in a plugin like that.

@Ansem93 Try Ctl-Shift-N (or Cmd on Mac) after re-opening Firefox. I have found that this works across sessions, i.e., even after closing the last window.

Forget waiting for FF to implement proper session management, that's not going to happen. You really, really need to implement auto saving and restoring the last save when starting a new session. I just lost a ton of tab groups because of this. Having two windows (or more) open in FF is the most horrible experience when you close the wrong window. I am sick and tired of having this happen, I can't count the number of times I lost tons of tabs because of this. AND THERE IS NO KEYBOARD SHORTCUT TO FIX THIS, SO STOP SUGGESTING IT.

Keep calm and try https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-session-manager/

@stricq What OS are you using, and what is the behavior you observe when you (1) have your startup tabs set to "restore last session", (2) close your last window, (3) re-open Firefox, and (4) use ctl-shift-N?

ctrl+shitf+n seems to work, but still few people now about this shortcut. I rhink that an automatic backup should be mandatory

Bro you are an absolute champion - got all my tabs back (despite several new window sessions), and I won't lose them again!
