Documentation: Mirador and UV as a viewer option
Description
Create documentation to guide implementers through the process of swapping the default IIIF viewer in Spotlight with alternative viewers such as Mirador or Universal Viewer (UV). This documentation should include:
- Where and how the default viewer is configured within Spotlight
- Steps required to integrate Mirador or UV as a replacement
- Any customization tips, gotchas, or best practices for implementation
- Examples or references to institutions that have successfully done this
This guidance will help institutions better support their IIIF use cases and offer more flexible viewing experiences to users.
Implemented at:
Stanford: For exhibits that contain image resources only (not audio or video), from our repository only, Mirador is available as a viewer option. This option is selected by the exhibit creator in the admin dashboard.
Harvard: We customized the item detail page to display our Mirador viewer instead of the default OpenSeadragon viewer. This is not configurable via the admin dashboard, but we'd be interested in having that as an option.
Princeton: We customized the item detail page to display the UV viewer
MDL: We have embedded UV using the iFrame widget for multi-page items, and other featured exhibit items on some occasions, like here: https://collection.mndigital.org/exhibits/contributors-choice-2024/feature/rules-of-court
