[UI/UX] Combine "Categories" and "Feed Sources" into one unified list
Hi there, thanks for this project! I'm checking out various feed readers, and FeedFlow seems like a promising new one :)
One thing that I find a little awkward about the interface now is that the left sidebar has two lists that are exactly the same (modulo the possible presence of "Uncategorized" in one of them:
To me, this UX is really confusing -- it means the sidebar is filled up with duplicated info. If I want to look at everything in a category, I have to remember that that's the first set of duplicate names. If I want to read a specific feed, I have to remember that that's the second set of duplicate names.
Most other RSS readers with categories don't seem to work this way; instead, they treat the category as a kind of folder that contains all the feeds within that category -- combining the two different sidebar lists FeedFlow has into one. You can click on the category to see all the feeds within it aggregated together, or you can open it to drill down to an individual feed. Here's Fluent Reader:
Here's RSS Guard:
Here's Akregator (note that I haven't really used it myself and it seems to have some concept of "nested categories" that doesn't seem strictly necessary to me, but you can still see the principle of combining "folder" and "aggregate view" in one):
To me, this is a lot more intuitive UX-wise -- it might be nice for FeedFlow to consider something similar.
Thanks for the suggestion! Yeah, I agree; I had in the pipeline to revisit that!
