[FEATURE REQUEST] Article common in multiple RSS Feeds
I have a collection of over 5000+ RSS Feeds. From 4 technology related websites
- Make Use of
- How-To Geek
- Android Police
- XDA Developers
These websites have limited the number of articles on their RSS Feeds. Only latest 10 articles in any RSS feeds are visible. Thanks to Feed Flow, even if these articles are removed from source RSS feeds, Feed Flow caches all articles offline if regularly refreshed. That's one of the reason I love and use FeedFlow.
All these above mentioned website, doesn't have a single RSS feed. For each topic and category, there is a RSS Feed for it. I have more than 1000+ RSS feeds for each website.
The feature I want is to have common articles to show in all RSS feeds, in which that article is published without making duplicate entries in timeline. Let's understand this by taking an example.
The latest article on Make use of is "This Nasty Malware Reminds Us Why Pirating Games Is Dangerous". This article is published in parent RSS feed of the whole website in which all articles are published but only latest 10 are visible at any point. Apart from that parent RSS feed, this article is also published in these RSS Feeds
But when all feeds are refreshed, this article is only visible in parent RSS feed and not visible in these sub categories of RSS feeds. Because FeedFlow removes duplicate articles from another RSS feeds and only shows articles from the first RSS feed. I want to have articles in all RSS feeds sections. If I go into "MakeUseOf - Security" RSS feed section in FeedFlow, I want that article to be present in that section also. In all sections where, that article is published. But in Timeline section of FeedFlow, no duplicate articles.
Thank you for this wonderful app. I really appreciate it. I have used other applications for RSS feeds, most of them don't cache articles offline and are gone if you don't read them in time. And most of them duplicate articles in timeline.
Thank you for the feedback, really appreciated!
I understand, I will look more into it in the future, but I'm afraid it won't be an easy feature, or not even possible at all with the current architecture; that's because every article is uniquely identified with its link, which's why there are no duplicates.
It's fine if it's not possible. It's just a tiny preference everyone might ignore. I don't really understand how RSS architecture works, that's why I thought It may be possible. Anyway, it's just sad that these websites are only allowing latest 10 articles in every RSS feed. But Feedflow has been a great help by saving article offline (locally) on device even though they are removed from source RSS feed after publishing new articles. I can't thank you enough.
Also, since all articles are saved offline, is there any way I can backup these articles entries? I have backup up my Feeds in OPML but If I lose my device and import OPML in new device, I can only get latest 10 articles from these RSS feeds. And will lose all those articles I've been saving by regularly refreshing Feedflow.
One last thing, when I share an RSS feed URL into Feedflow app on Android, it takes 10-15seconds to verify that link and fetch/download article entries. And I can't search for any other RSS feed in my browser during this time because "Adding feed..." Overlay is being shown on the screen. Maybe we could make this process background? Feedflow adding feeds in background and we can use our device in foreground. Because 10-15 seconds per feed is very time consuming if you are dealing with thousands of feeds. Also adding feeds always go into "uncategorized" section and after opening Feedflow app, there is no option to select all uncategorized feeds and save them into a specific category. Currently I use a trick to quickly add my hundreds of feeds into one category by
- Exporting feeds to OPML
- Editing OPML with any text editor
- And adjusting that tag to include all uncategorised feeds into a category
- And finally importing OPML back into Feedflow. It's just a workaround. It would be better to have in app feature to arrange multiple feeds.
Thank you again for this wonderful app. And for reading my endless "eassys".
Gotcha, thanks for the feedbacks! What you wrote is not possible right now, but it's great feedback, I'll add it to my backlog!
