name: Bug report about: Create a report to help us fix your issue
Describe the bug
After installing Ubuntu 25.04 via PINN onto an NVMe drive, the system fails to boot and shows a kernel panic.
To reproduce
- Flash PINN onto an NVMe
- Boot Raspberry Pi 5 using PINN.
- Install Ubuntu 25.04 onto an NVMe drive.
- Reboot the system.
Expected behaviour
Ubuntu 25.04 should boot successfully from the NVMe drive after being installed via PINN.
Actual behaviour
A kernel panic occurs during boot: VFS: Unable to mount root fs.
System
- Raspberry Pi Model: Raspberry Pi 5 (16 GB RAM)
- PINN Version: P3.9.4
Logs
kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs
Additional context
Directly flashing Ubuntu 25.04 to the same NVMe drive (without PINN) works without issues. The problem occurs only when the system is installed using PINN.
Yep, Ubuntu really doesn't like multi-booting on NVME. I had this issue with v24.10 as well.
24.10 is currently booting without any problems. But as soon as I upgrade to 25.04, I immediately get a kernel panic. Are there any ways to fix this?
I'm looking into it.
Any chance this could be resolved? Thanks!
Same issue and message with Raspberry Pi 5 8GB - Ubuntu 25.04 boots fine so long as it is the only OS installed. When installed via PINN it results in kernel panic and unable to boot.
