Background color of TinyMCE in the new admin theme confusing my users when they add images

Open cb2004 opened this issue 6 months ago • 4 comments

As the title suggests, when my users are adding images into the content, they are really put off by the grey background of TinyMCE and are emailing me saying it is going to look weird on the page with the grey background, especially if the images have a white background. Not sure why a grey background was added as any RTE I have used has a white background.

The way I've done this in the past is to override the background while the editor is focused. So you get uniform gray backgrounds for all editable fields but still a realistic preview with white background while editing. Something like this:

.InputfieldTinyMCE.mce-edit-focus {
    background: #ffffff !important;
}

Do you know any rich text editors that have a background other than white? Look at the comment box here on GitHub.

The one I'm most familiar with in Statamic has gray-ish background to match other inputs. It looks quite nice actually. While not in focus, I don't see an issue with that. It's just while editing the content that it makes sense to force a white background.

Sorry, but for my users where mostly we keep the content background white, this will always throw them off.
