USB Camera not in list but in Device Manager and works with other software to view image
What protocol or interface does Processing Video library recognize cameras in ? WIA, TWAIN, etc? I plug in my 5MP usb 3.0 camera and it is in device manager as a image device but does not appear in my camera list! So i cannot select and access it with Processing. Any help please.
Update: Can access and select camera from list of cameras recognized with several Windows camera capture softwares : CommandCam , Debut, and others. Camera description in drop down list is either "integrated camera" or "STC-MCS500U3V(16E3123" The second is the camera I am trying to use. It is a 5MP Sentech that uses USB3 vision ,but loads drivers for DirectX and others. The protocol is recognized by other webcam viewer software utilities that are free. This leads me to believe it is not the protocol. Its a USB 3.0 camera and I have verified the USB3 port is working and connected to this camera. I also tried disabling the integrated camera and I get "no camera available" when i run example to list cameras.
June 2018. The Problem still exists: Out of the cameras listed not every camera can be Chosen / opened. This seems correlated with higher resultions and higher Frame rate (if you consider FPS = 15 or 30 and Resolution = 1280 x 720 as high). The camera seems not to start, as no videoEvents get visible and thus no Picture is readable. The cam.start() instruction does not create any error, just that the camera does not get active. - other programs can activate and use the camera, so it is not a Driver / Connection / ... issue, but resides in processing.
Any news on that bug? This is really restricting the usefulness of processing, as low Resolution is no solution to many poblems !
thx, Christian
Another Year, still exists , tried some more cameras , same problem . I did find that cameras the list as : "webcam" or as "Cameras" under Device Manager work fine. I have a e-con stick camera tha works for all its resolutions up tp 5 megapixel or Really need this to work for new applications where live stream from the camera to memory image is needed. Now i use a 3rd party grabber software , call it , save the file , then loadImage the file and copy to display!. I can't do live images with this , way to much overhead. Thanks
@jeffmarc10 The latest beta has better support for camera capture, maybe is worth trying out. Needs to be installed manually as it is not available through the Contributions Manager, but the upcoming stable v2.0 release will be.
