Learning Section Information Architecture
Hello all!
I hope this is the right place to have this discussion but if not, please let me know and I can move this to somewhere more appropriate. I am leading an effort at Open@RIT where our team helped contribute a number of examples created by one of our fellows, Prof. Michelle Harris. During this effort, our design team took a look at p5.js's website in order to better analyze how we can contribute our learning materials. As we familiarized ourselves with the Learn section of the website, one of our designers Julia Hawley ,did a few information architecture exercises and we thought we might share some suggestions from our work below.
Open@RIT proposal for two sections of the p5.js website: “Learn” and “Example”
Learn
The “Learn” section on P5.js is currently structured with the information architecture in Figure 1:

Figure 1: Current structure of the “Learn” sections
We analyzed the organization of sections under “Learn” and created a new information architecture suggestion, as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2: Proposed structure of the “Learn” sections
Renaming suggestions for the “Learn” section:
- Introduction -> Beginners or Getting Started with P5.js.
- P5.js Overview -> What is P5.js
- Becoming a Better Programmer -> Programming Guide or Programming
- Examples -> Using P5.js
- Contributing to community -> Contribute
- Beginner Topics (new section)
Example
The “Example” section on P5.js currently has the sections shown in Figure 3:

Figure4 outlines the proposal for the “Example” section structure:
